It's simple, if you upgrade days BEFORE your flight, it will cost you $350.00, but you are guaranteed of the seat, just like buying a ticket weeks before.
If , however you wait until you get to the airport, you can purchase an upgrade for a cheaper price ONLY if a seat is available.
It's like any last minute deal
.e.g Wofif, Last Minute Flights etc.
Hope that clears things up, personally I would not risk it any more as so many travel B.C. now.
