Could someone help please

we are going to bali in June for 26 nights and staying in Sanur for 3 nights then hiring a car and going to drive ourselves up to Amed.
What I was wanting to know can you go from Candidasa along the coast to Amed ?
or do we go to Amlapura and then head around the coast to Amed ?
Hope someone can help with a few directions .
We went to Amed with our friend and driver last year and stayed 2 night's, fell in love with the place the people and the peace and quiet.
