first of all it would be interesting to know the definition of internet broadband connection.

technically the term "broadband" refers to the top 25% bracket of the fastest commercially available connection speed (throughput both down- and up-link) on DSL, cable, mobile broadband and narrowband platforms. because of the ever increase in connection speed, the broadband bandwidth is proportionally getting bigger (except in indonesia).

right now in major western cities worldwide you (as enduser) can install a broadband connection of upto 48 Mbps, here on the island (and also the rest of indonesia) we have the possibility of 1 Mbps (at the most) but the cost is totally out of reach for all of us in Bali (the cheapest rate is Rp. 16,000,000 per month without license).

even at 1 mbps, we call such internet connection as "high speed" as many expats who live and work in Bali will experience, it is rather sad regarding the inadequate state of internet speeds in Bali.

a lot of places and hotels offer internet access, but most of them are connecting at 64, 128 kbps.

for your reference, the cost of 256 kbps (128 kbps downlink, 128 kbps uplink) unlimited access using radio link is Rp. 8,800,000 + 10% tax

for the lack of modern living, there are lots of smiles and happy people on the island...
