I made my 2nd trip to Bali last April after a 27 year gap. I persauded my husband to go by offering to pay for everything including all the Bintang he could drink and for a massage everyday. He reluctantly agreed to go and everytime we had an argument prior to going would threaten not to go. I finally got him there and guess what he didn't want to go home. Well the funny thing is he works in building and I work as a senior manager in local government. We were constantly amused by the following things which should freak one or the other of us out - the roadworks in Melasti Street - dig a hole fill it in and dig another one, the age of the machinery, the occ health and safety precautions (ie: Japanese safety boots), motorbikes on footpaths, the building techniques used, the amount of dogs wandering around (but they were very well behaved - an Aussie dog would chase every car in sight), the traffic - conjested, chaotic, but no one gets angry and there doesn't seem to be alot of accidents. After 2 weeks we ended up in Bali mode. I could imagine some visitors particularly those who work in our fields could get stressed, but in a way I feel that Australia is over regulated and we live in a nanny state - its a relief to go to Bali. Well trip number four happens on 16th of March (3rd time in a year). We are taking our 20yo son and I am sure he will take Bali in his stride. Do you guys have any interesting stories about visitors freaking out when they realise Bali is not Aus? I would like to hear them.
