Excuse me butting in, but I always feel uncomfortable when I read advice that encourages shoppers to visit fixed price shops to get prices and then use these as bargaining tools on the market. I have this picture of people walking round the shop with their pencil and paper jotting down prices and waisting the owners time. Toots is a lovely lady (as I am sure are all the fixed price shop owners and indeed market stall holders) and by introducing fixed prices she has made a statement of honesty in her dealing with customers. I can also assure any shopper that on any given basket of items it would take hours to get the market traders to drop their prices to equal (never mind beat) the fixed price shops. I seem to remember reading an experiment somewhere to prove this. I believe we should encourage fixed price shops where ever possible.
