Some one asked the same question in August last year and this is what I told them then. We are going againn in October this year for my neices wedding. the person in August was afraid of bombing anf bird flu
"We are going with our children in October (3 yr old twins, 11 and 17). Yes there are risks, but the same it could be said for being at home. Life is a gamble, we however take care and are aware of our settings.
We take our medication kit, with antidiarrhoeals, antibiotics to cover general diarrhoea bugs and chest infections. Plus oral electrolytes solution for adult and child, plus various a first aid to teat cuts, breaks and other problems.
We don't frequent nightclubs, bars or other areas which could be seen as a potential target. In restaurants, we always sit in a corner never in front. Be aware of wher the exits are when you enter a facility.
With bird flu, the risk of contracting is so low, you are more likely to discover that you are the secrret love child of Elvis before you contract it. You have to live in close proximity, and have to handle either an infected animal, handle a died animal, or their feaces. There has been NO Human to Human transmission of the H5N1 virus. it has all been bird to human transmission.
So simple precautions with handwashing, and if do you go to a village or chicken farm, tale care to ensure your maintain your personal hygiene. If your shoes get covered in chicken faeces, wash it off with water.
The people of Bali, need us .. They are a proud people but it with forsake them. Then we are the losser's for we have not helped our friends in a time of need."
