It is so bloody easy to say "No thank you!". But many tourists forget this. If you are rude to the local people they become rude back! Which is fair enough to my way of thinking.
I speak a resonable standard of Indonesian and the sellers will often include me in their little game of annoying a rude tourist.
After the tourist has told them to "piss off" they will swap their bag of DVD's with their mate who may have a tray of watches and then come back to annoy the same rude tourist. Often they will then borrow a tray of rings from another friend and come back to really annoy the tourist.
If you ever come back to Bali, try saying "no thank you". Try saying this whilst smiling. I am willing to bet that you will get a whole different reaction.It is a lot better than telling them to "go away"
Your whole post is negative, I can understand why the locals hassled you.
I really like your comment about the hotel in Sanur (Bali Beach Club) being really run down. You admit that you did not go there!
Just as a small point, there is actually no place in Sanur named Bali Beach Club. There are 2 places in Sanur that have the name Beach Club. One is a windsurfing school and the other is a beach restaurant and bar operated by the 5 star Parigata Hotel.
All in all..will you come back to Bali. At this stage I hope not.
