Well Im back with more as promised last night.
Day 3 Dad started coming down with the flu. As he is 73 with asthma we were a bit concerned as all my family had got it before we left for bali and it really knock the crap out of them.
I took a visit down to the local pharmacy to see what they had to give
him but being a asthmatic there is not a lot of choice.
They gave me some herbal stuff but within a couple of hours he seemed to be getting worse so of to the medical centre I took him It was the BMIC hospital. Well what a place this is I couldn't fault it at all I would honestly say it was far cleaner, friendly, efficient, outstanding hospital than I have ever seen in Australia. The staff could not do enough they took one look at Dad and took him straight through to emergency put him on a ECG machine took xrays and this all took about 20 mins. They said that his lungs were starting to fill with fluid meaning it was a start of Broncitis. He was not getting enough oxegen in his blood so they said he would have to stay in overnight. Within 10mins of this he was moved to his room. I nearly died when I saw his room he had a private room with his own bathroom, cable TV bar fridge, safe. It was nicer than the hotel we were staying in. The price for this we were told would be roughly $600au a night.
They told us we would have to pay before he could leave and then claim it back when we got home. This was not a problem as when someone you love is so sick you never worry about the price. There was a English male nurse on duty and he was lovely he explained everything to us what was happening he really put our minds a rest.
I explained to the Doctor that Dad was a asthmatic and enquired if this condition he had would be from his asthma as the travel insurance does not pay out for pre existing conditions. She said no it has nothing to do with it so she said she would fill in all the paper work for us and deal with the Travel insurance direct. Dads total stay was 4 nights costing a total for all treatment, test, meals (which were brought in from local resturant) everything $3000au. When we went to leave I got my credit card out to pay and they said dont worry we have fixed it all up with the Travel insurance people you only have to pay excess of $75au.
So If you ever get sick while in Bali dont ever be afraid to go to this Medical centre you will be blown away with the sevices.
I have to say also we used Travel Insurance Direct and I will defently be using these again.
While Dad was in hospital Mum also came down with it but she manage to get medicine from Pharmacy but it still took about a week for them to feel better.
Oh I must also tell you a funny thing that happened to Dad while in there as he was on machines all the time two little Balinese Nurse came in to give him a wash. Well the poor bugger nearly had a heart attack. He said they never missed a inch he said it was the best holiday he ever has had . It was quite funny when he was telling us talk about a great Birthday he said.
Well I hope I havent bored you but I really thought you would all like to know that there is wonderful medical help in Bali if unfortunatly you ever need it.
I believe the hospital was built by the Australian Government after the first bombing. Now we just need them to put more into our own hospital system back here.
well enough for tonight more tommorrow
Julie.
