agree that the north coast is different, it is much quieter and the sea is usually calmer, black sand at Lovina, but rather low tide. We found the sea at Permuteran was clearer for snorkelling, and of course the best snorkelling is Mengangan Island. If you have the time why not travel from the North West to the East coast and include Amed and Candi Dasa. If your time is limited I would suggest Candi Dasa which has good snorkelling, and there are many places of interest to visit in the area.
