Thanks for the information regarding going to VCAT about travel complaints.I don't think many people are aware that they can do this.
I remember when Flight Centre stuffed up our return tickets from Phuket to Melbourne via Singapore. They issued tickets on wait list (apparently agents are NOT allowed to to this) Anyway, we found out after our first week on holiday that we couldn't get home. Readers Digest version coming up but it ruined the rest of our holiday with me fighting with our travel agent in Melbourne, ground tour rep (who abused me with a screeching voice I can still hear) Silk Air and Singapore Airlines. We did get home... but after a ruined 2nd week. I made a complaint to Flight Centre. The agent/manager who made the error actually agreed verbally to a sum of money that we were happy with... their 'risk management' office in Brisbane knocked it back. After weeks of waiting and phone calls I got sick of it all and excepted a cheque offer of $500. (Their first offer was $500 against another holiday with them... yeah right!!)
However, after the agreement was done they did say failing that we didn't agree our next step would have been VCAT and prove psychologically how they spoilt our holiday.
Until then I wasn't aware that VCAT was an option open to us.
