You can buy alcohol in Australia, after you have been thru the scanners/xray, and take on board aircraft.
In Bali the duty free shops are prior to the scanners/xray (scanners are at the entrance to the gate lounge), so any amounts of liquid (perfumes, mouth wash, liquor, ie any liquid) greater than 100mls each, 1 litre in total are confiscated. (These are Australian rules, so Bali has to comply for flights to Australia). You need to pack the liquid into your stow luggage, then no problem.
If you purchased in Australia and wished to take the dregs back to Australia, cant be carried on board.
