for my husband's gardening business. The 457 now has a minimum salary and hours guarantee which was beyond what we could offer, and well above the going rate for a gardener. Gardeners were lumped in with all sorts of skilled workers.

Chris C - the best bet is for your friend to go through an agent in Bali - there is at least one operating, sorry don't know the name. The way this works is that the agent will set themselves up in the country where they are recruiting the workers, then bring them to Australia, help them with accom etc and getting to work for the first week or so. They pay a fee which includes the airfare etc. My hubby has a friend from the Phillipines who came in that way, he shares a house with people from all over on 457's.
