is regarded as almost worthless in much of Asia. I had my 9 carat ring replaced a couple of years ago by one of the village goldsmiths and he wouldn't consider 18 carat for the job so had it done in 22 carat which is generally thought too soft to last but is lasting well. 18 carat gold is after all 6/24 or 25% copper and 22 carat is only 2/24 copper. My wife has bought several 22 and 24 carat(pure gold) items in the 'Gold Street' and been very happy with valuations given at home of 4-5 times cost. That is why very little 18 carat is seen in Denpasar - it is just not pure enough.
