Hi all
Back on 30/6 after two fantastic weeks in Bali. This was the first holiday without any children tagging along, after 25 years of marriage we deserved it. We flew with Jet Star this time and apart from a slightly late departure we had no complaints at all and would definitely fly with them again. The focus of this trip was always going to be relaxation, as my wife has recently lost her father and coupled with the fact that our last visit was interrupted by the first bombs. So it's not very exciting but here goes.
EATING
We stayed in Tuban so we ate there a bit, Fabri's is great, good service and menu. Best satays at Green Garden. Bubba Gumps a lot of fun, good value.(must order a margurita). Pantai on the beach has lovely atmosphere at night and the food is pretty good too.
The winner was definitely Garis Garis (near Ramada Bintang), beautiful!
We stayed at the Ramada Bintang, as we have done before and weren't dissapointed. This place is terrific, good pool, friendly staff and a pretty good location too I think.
SHOPPING
Mrs bali_belly found that the most successful approach was to circle her prey, like a hungry Great White, then when the poor unsuspecting victim least expected it, she would pounce. It was all over fairly quickly, a mercifully clean kill. This technique yeilded approx. 15 handbags, 20 pairs of shoes,of assorted styles, ten purses and wallets and around 8 kilos of other (as Jet Star can assure).
We did go into Denpasar to visit Gold Street but there isn't any 18 carat there(not that we could find) ended up buying a nice ring in the big jewellery store in Kuta square. Lot's of DVDs and games.
The winner in this section is "jenny Shop" (opp.Green Garden) fixed prices, no haggling and very reasonable (nice girl too).
Some little day trips broke up the routine, nothing too taxing.
Sorry this has turned out so long, I hope I haven't bored you all.
P.S.
Thanks for sharing all your advice and stories, it certainly enhanced our "second honeymoon" adventure.
Steve
