- roads; reasonable for Bali that is.
Lots of things to do and see on the way depending on your interests - spinning/weaving mills in Gianyar, palace, museum and local market in Klungkung, salt 'farm' and wild ferry landings and loading off the beach at Kusamba, Goa Lawah - the Bat Cave, a beautiful cove and village at Padang Bai beginning to develop into a tourist place (see it before the naturalness wears off), the lost beach at Candi Dasa, the rice fields of Bugbug, the markets and old world shops at Amlapura, Tirtagangga and the royal bathing pools, rice terracing around Abang (some of the best in Bali - make sure you have your camera handy), the coast road through Amed, the floating palace and temple at Ujung which leads you back to Candi Dasa.
It's at least a day trip depending on how long you want to stop and see things along the way. A driver and good car should be no more that Rp300-350,000 for an 8 hour day from Ubud. Be aware that there might be problems picking up transport out of Amed if you decide to stay there overnight. Candi Dasa might be a better option in this respect.
