msg back and ask if he has resolved his financial difficulties and if not you would like to discuss the matter further with both he and Putu.
It gives him a face saving way to gracefully exit from having asked if he so chooses.
If you discuss it with them both then let them know you'll get back to them as you need to work out if you are in a position to lend it.
Then just think the conversation over before you decide.
