Thanks for all your replies which, because this is very new to me, have helped me a lot in clarifying what will work best for me.
There is no great need for me to visit schools as i have no particular skill, other than a bit of conversational strine, that would be of any use to them academically.
Nor is there a need for me to visit sponsored students and in doing so take up the time of a ngo worker whose time might best be used to help those who are in need of help.
I will visit a child or a school only if it is absolutely insisted on, however i do not go with any gift other than that of being an ok person for them to say hello to.
Any gifts i may have or any spare dollars will be given to the ngo's to give to wherever it is most needed. They will know.
As has been said here, we all work out what suits us best, and you have each helped me to work out what is best for me. Thank you :)
