I am a little confused over GST on imports under $1K total value as when I contacted customs they told me no GST or import duty on under 1K worth. I will not be registered for GST as I will not have the turnover to require it...( at least in the first year...)

Any thoughts on this beltom?? Where am I getting confused? Customs were quite clear on the matter, so I'm not too sure what the story is.
