My wife and I first went to Bali in 1982 for our honeymoon & stayed in a small set of Bungalows. As usual we were picked up by a Balinese guide ( the darkest one i've ever seen with a mouthful of white smiling teeth )at the airport with our name on some cardboard. We went on some tours and got to know him quite well for the week, then left to go home.
8.1/2 years later with 3 kids we are going on another tour and stop at a village to see a dance but it's too hot to sit out in the sun for 1 hour so we stroll through the courtyard full of stalls and who do i see up the back in the shade, our first guide Wayan. Only saw him by his white shining teeth. I said hello to him & mentioned to him of our first visit and he was a bit hazy about it, so I said 'There's my wife down there' and when he saw her his face lit up. Without telling him my wife's name, he said 'Ah, Caroline and John from Perth'. That encounter made our whole trip.
