I have a couple.
1. Spent a month in Legian in April 2002 having organised to stay at T r o p i c a l K u b u via e-mail. First time I had stayed there & for the first 2 weeks the Aussie owner was there. We developed a routine of sitting on my porch every afternoon & having a chat. Barry had been in the used car game, knew of my uncle & used to live in the Hurstville area of Sydney. One afternoon I heard the door of the office slam & Barry came running down the path. He was going home that night & had a question to ask. He said, "Are you any relation to Bevan Gardner?" To which I replied, "Yep that's my dad." Barry turned around & said, "Well you had better tell him that you have met the wicketkeeper from his (Dad was the captain) St George Green Shield representative cricket team in 1949!!" Spooky !!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. After my years of returning to Bali, My father & his lady friend decided to see what the attraction was in September 2002. They had booked a hotel up towards Seminyak. Dad had been in contact with Barry but unfortunately he was back in Australia at the time so they couldn't catch up. Lo & behold who should be staying in the hotel room next door to Dad but Barry's sister who my father had known way back then as well.
Strange world & I am happy to say last Friday night Barry aka The Baron was in Sydney & they saw each other face to face for the first time in over 50 years. Pretty cool I think.
