I returned from a trip to Bali at the end of last year. I was lucky enough to stay with a Balinese friend who took me all around the island. One of the most interesting places was the Trunyan Cemetary on the shore of Lake Batur. In this particular village they dont bury the dead but instead leave them out above the ground. The diving in Tulamben was also fantastic.
I then spent a week in Flores, I flew into Ende and then worked my way down to Labuan Bajo and Komodo. I highly recommend Flores for the more adventurous who dont mind staying in a straw hut rather than a 5 star hotel. I visited Kelimutu, volcanic crater lakes which have really unnatural colours. I also visited hot springs near Bajawa and then visited traditional villages in Bena. I then went down to Labuan Bajo via Ruteng and went for a day trip to Komodo Island. My guide in Flores was fantastic, good english speaker as he worked in the US for several years. He was really knowledgable and was able to organise an itinerary based on my budget and time frame. Please email me if you would like his contact details as I highly recommend him.
I have so many photos and stories and suggestions if you are planning a trip to flores. Please email me if I can be of help.
