trips throughout Indonesia. I have just recently returned from spending 5.5 months ( my 7th trip since 1997) wandering around Indonesia by myself.
Spent over 35 days travelling through Java- West and Central revisiting many places from previous visits and visiting East Java for the first time. Visited Gunung Bromo and Kawah Ijen as well as Surabaya, Probolinggo, Cemoro Lawang, Malang, Lumajang, Ambulu, Jember and Bondowoso.
Then spent 3 months in West Sumatra- Padang, Painan, Kambang ( pig hunting, Bukittingi, Lake Maninjau and North Sumatra- Lake Toba, Brestagi, Bukit Lawang and Tangkahan-a paradise, 19 days in Aceh, got bus to Kutacane from Medan, spent 8 days in Ketembe,went on trek to see wild orangutans, then travelled up the centre by bus through Blankejeren, Takengon- stayed 1 day, walked around the magnificent Lake Tawar and then through to Banda Aceh.
From Banda Aceh to Pulau Weh- such a great laid back place- stayed Iboih and then back to Banda Aceh where I did a 6 hr tour of Banda Aceh on motor bike with internet friend.
Flew from Banda Aceh back to Medan to Jakarta to Bali. Then spent 5 days in Kuta Lombok with Gemma and Made at Mimpimanis( they are now in the latest Lonely Planet Indonesia book) and then back to Bali and up to Sulawesi to Tana Toraja for 6 days with my guide friend Dodo- the famous Pen man of Sulawesi.
