We're also going in May. We'll be staying at the Griya Santrian (after we've stayed at Legian, Ubud and Lovina). It's quieter than Kuta, which is great if you're a little older (like us). If you're young and want to party, Sanur is NOT the place for you. Shopping is good. The market is smaller than it used to be, and we don't shop there as a rule, because everyone else does. We mainly shop on the main street, because they're doing it really tough. We also eat on the street, rather than at the hotel. We figure the hotel is getting enough of our money and frankly, the food is better and cheaper on the street. There's lots of restaurants to check out, and some of our favourites are Lazer Sports Bar, Cafe Aladin, Retro and JJs. There's heaps more, but you can't go to all of them. Well, maybe you can. Maybe we should give it a try.

Spending money, well, that depends on how social you're going to be. We allow AUD100 per day for the 2 of us (which is plenty if you're not going on a day trip), and we use the credit card when we make large purchases. It basically depends on what you can afford. Some people appear to be able to do things much cheaper than we do. Others need twice as much.

Where are you planning to stay, and what dates are you going?
