what a load of rubbish that statement is.If it was true why didnt they set up an airline to fly only to bali?
The truth is that australian airlines were operating the bali routes not qantas, yes they were a subsiduary of qantas same as jetstar is,and any operating loss was over the entire route system and a/a themselves were set up as a budget arm of qantas for international flights.
It is more likely that they were replaced by jetstar as a brand marketing exersize as qantas started jetstar here as a domestic airline and they also own, partially, jetstar asia operating from singapore.I also dont think that "the extras" will bring that great a boost to any profits as for example if the are selling meals onboard and only 20% of passengers have pre-booked a meal they will still have to have a whole lot of "extra" meals onboard which if not sold will be wasted therefore creating a loss as against a profit, and i dont know where you think the middle man in this is as the meals are prepared by qantas in there own kitchens.
