I work at an airport serviced by Jetstar. The staff that handle the ground services work for an agent...not Jetstar. Yet Jetstar make quite unreasonable restrictions that give them absolutely no leeway whatsoever.
At the same time, they are not paid much...certainly not enough to absorb the abuse handed out by some of the public. Additionally, Jetstar have just enough aircraft to fill their schedules. There is no allowance for any breakdown, such as some minor damage that grounds an aircraft, even for a short time. The aircraft you are due to fly on may have had some holding due weather sometime during the day. With such short turnaround times, that delay will snowball throughout the rest of the day. When this hits Sydney curfew for instance, it causes major problems...further diversions ,etc.
I for one would rather sit waiting for the aircraft to be serviceable than fly in something that MIGHT just be OK.
