For your balanced view. I was obviously not able to put it across in a way that did not offend some people as you have.
I too used to work in hospitality (OK I was a barmaid as we were called in those days!!!) I now find if I go near a cigarette I start to cough and my eyes stream.
I do seem to be a target for smokers. I do try and avoid them, but if I go into an internet cafe and position myself in a quiet corner, sure enough within a few minutes a smoker will sit next to me and place their ashtray under my nose!!
In Perth all the pubs and clubs and more recently the casino were all going to go under if the strict smoking laws were brought in...well, they are going even stronger as far as I can see. They certainly have my (and the 40 non smoking friends I had here for a Chrissy party) custom now after years of non attendance due to the smoke.
I actually had to leave Las Vegas because of the smoke, and what a relief to get to Santa Monica and the strict Californian rules.
I realise you cannot "ban" smoking but I applaud any measures making it bearable for those who don't smoke, as I would any measures to reduce pollution.
