I always prefer a reasonable compromise, where one is available, to trying to beat one another down with more and more lurid health threats and more and more inappropriate analogies.

In WA, we've had smoke free restaurants for years and the pubs and clubs [which I stopped going to years ago, because of the smoke] have recently become smoke free. The pub/club issue was argued from the point of view of a healthy workplace for hospitality staff and it's hard to disagree with that concept, isn't it? I've got a couple of non-smoking friends who play in bands and I know that they hated having to work in smoky pubs.

My social life revolves around Ballroom and Latin dancing and has done since I was 16 [when my very smart mother told me that dancing was the best way to meet girls]. The dance venues in WA are all smoke free too and the relatively few dancers who smoke seem to accept going onto an outside balcony or veranda to have a cigarette.

It should be relatively easy in Bali, with the open, or semi-open nature of many of the restaurants to comfortably provide for both smokers and non-smokers and I'd certainly like to see this happen.
