As you no doubt know, being knowledgeable of marriages in Indonesia, the law around mixed marriages is not particularly clear. As with many laws in Indonesia it is a murky subject.

Mostly the problem lays in having the wedding legalised by having it registered at the Civil Registry Office (assuming a non-muslim wedding). That office is generally unwilling to certify inter-faith marriages due to it's interpretation of Marriage Law.

Because of that situation it is difficut to find someone who will perform an inter-faith ceremony.

However, inter-religious marriages do take place, and there is case law around their legality. Several famous cases in fact, where the Civil Registry Office has been ordered by the Supreme Court to register the marriage.

That being said, my point to the poster was that she really has little option - in all practicality they will need to have a religious ceremony in order for it to be certified by the Civil Registry Office, thus making it a legal marriage.
