Being in the process of arranging a son's wedding in bali next March I have found out some of the problems. For a fully legal wedding recognised outside Indonesia it is necessary to have both a religious and a civil celebrant present and who work in unison. For several countries, if you want to be able to get a marriage certificate from home country as well, then also need a representative from your embassy/consullate present. There is a lot of preliminary paperwork to get all the birth certificates, wedding permissions etc.
Happy to be emailed if can help more.
