i would not let them see the back of my card either.
if they want your booking they will come up with an alternative.
you can quote your number to them and they can have a deposit authorised quickly, thus proving no fraud.
Even on booking into a hotel when they ask for your card you can propose a cash deposit,say 100.00.
if they are not happy with that ask for the manager. if all else fails book with someone else!!
