Similar thing happened to me several years ago. I was wearing a very downtrodden pair of sandals at the time and was just standing talking to one of the footwear guys. Without asking or saying anything, he took one of my sandals off and replaced it with easily the most comfortable leather sandal I have ever had on my feet. I certainly didn't try to stop him from replacing the other one too.

They were stamped with the NIKE symbol, but no way were they genuine. So what, I hope the profits went to some normal, hardworking people, rather than to the greedy multinationals. [OK, I realise that some people rely on the multinationals for employment, but we all know what I mean, don't we?]

And I was so amused, I didn't really bargain hard either.

Many happy memories of Ubud, Tegalallang, Sukawati etc. Wonderful places and worth a few days for anyone who can find the time.
