included an art set of paints, pens, crayons etc with an art folio and a good quality soccer ball, which I bought at Hardy's while we were there.
We also purchased a few weeks food supply for the family at markets on the way there.
Avoid anything which will require batteries. I think that Helen also sends out a file to new sponsor families with some gift suggestions included.
