Get the most up-to-date Bali Guide Books your book shop has & you'd be pretty safe relying on them for getting around on public transport. They give details of bemo routes & costs beyond the usual touristy routes.
Heaps of other great info in them too, places to stay, eat at, visit etc - you will find that each book is well-worth the A$20-A$30 you pay for it - just be sure to get the most up-to-date one/s. Talking about Lonely Planet & Rough Guide - there may be others but from experience I know these are good.
