Around Kuta in Lombok the distant surf breaks are serviced by boats - my husband surfs there often & as an old guy he dislikes long paddles, too. The usual thing is to hire a boat (for about Rp50K I think) - no shortage of them. The boat guys are good, often yelling to "their" surfers when they see a good set coming. Also, they don't mind the Missus tagging along to do a bit of fishing & even supply shade, bait, lines etc. You could also ask on the Lombok Lovers Forum. I'd ask my husband to reply but he's not keen to add to the number of surfers there LOL.
