Villa Naga Maya is THE cheapest, quality villa I have seen, and boy, have I looked at a few.
Merrick has been great to deal with. He has given me a special friend rate of US$115 per night for a 2bdr villa incl brekky (4 of us). This is in a brand new villa, in Legian (where we want to be) and only sharing the pool with 1 other villa. Oh, and did I mention the plasmas with 40 channels?
This is in the low season for Bali, although on Merricks website it is in his high season.

Now, other villas either - don't have a pool/aren't really a villa/ or are very tired/dated/questionable etc. etc.
or
Are very nice, have private pool, are miles from anywhere and charge like wounded bulls.
This is OK if you have that much money, but we don't.

In the villas I have stayed in at Bali they pride themselves on being quiet at night. We have never had an issue with noise.

Most of them ARE as lovely as the websites. Thats what we're here for. Check out the archives, Mics travel forum etc.
The good folk who run this site also have many villas so you may like to check them out.

The reasons I have chosen Villa Naga Maya are
location - can walk everywhere
almost private pool
cable TV - some of us like to kick back
price - extremely reasonable
small and personal
new villas, that means not tired or midewy
and importantly, we will not be paying for any extras we don't want - like drivers etc.

Horses for courses.

For a family, particularly large ones with g'ma etc. included - you may find a villa to come out cheaper than several hotel rooms. It certainly is an experience.

Does that answer your Q?
