It isn't just a coincidence, is it, that the most corrupt countries on Earth are also among the poorest ??? While corruption exists everywhere to some degree, in developed countries the percentage is much less and generally restricted to the higher strata.

In developing countries you will find all pervasive corruption. That is, corruption at almost every level. It screws up the economy severely. It enriches officials at the expense of the general public.
People in authority (officials) by definition have to be in the minority. You cannot have more officials than common people :-)

However, from your personal point of view, yes, I concede it makes things a lot easier for you, in certain respects. But, this cannot be good for Bali. It is certainly good for a few Balinese officials.
But, not for the Balinese in general or their economy.

I applaud you for at least not being a hypocrite while cheerfully bribing your way through :-)
