I used my westpac m/c at the Adhi Dharma to pay my final bill. Someone there took the details and sent them to Thailand. In Thailand they successfully took AU$10.45 (which was later reversed by the bank)and then tried to take AU$2145.00 Westpac declined this transaction. I had called the bank before I left and didn't acutally know that the card had been used in Thailand. The bank then cancelled my card (without telling me!!) I was actually at a petrol station in Australia trying to buy a tank of fuel when I finally called them to find out why my card wouldn't work.
I still always take my c/cards but only use them at the bank. Most places don't take cards anyway, Bali is a cash economy. I have since stayed at the Adhi Dharma and the Garden View and the Pelangi and each time I refuse to give my card to them. I tell them exactly what happened and they don't even bat an eyelid, they know what goes on.
