snorkeling from there is either at blue lagoon padangbai or white sands beach the other side of candi dasa, both need either a boat or a car to get there. you can't snorkle off the beach at a.m. the hotel can organise either or you can approach the guys next door for a much cheaper price! there's no comparison with the fish, menjangen is heaps better, but not sure about accom there, and it's a long drive. alila was great for our 3 day splurge, but i wouldn't normally spend that amount on accom and doubt that i would again. however the breakfasts and poolside service [included!] were wonderful, and other meals could be obtained in the village next door. there was a shuttle bus to candi dasa or tenganan each day, and bemos go by regularly. so i guess it comes down to how important the fish are, compared to other attractions nearby and travel time. have fun wherever! the other option would be somewhere around amed, lots of dive sites or snorkeling off beach, and a big range of accom.
