Shauna, your sms to bali will be the same as whatever plan you are on in Australia probably around 25 cents. The cost for your friends in Bali to sms you in Australia is around 500 rupiah.
If you are looking for a cheap way of calling them while you are still in Australia, purchase an Optus prepaid sim card and select the turbo charge option. When you recharge it with $30 you get $120 of free calls / sms in total or a $50 recharge gives you a total of $250.00 calls / sms. I call Bali frequently and not short calls, this has saved me a fortune over the last 18 months or so.
BTW - just to update you I have now successfully got the photo of my friends son off the mobile phone, with a little help from Jan..[Kepala Udang]...thanks Jan, and thanks Shauna, if you hadnt posted about sending condolences, I would have probably forgotten to follow this up before I left..cheers :-)
