Hugging? How to deal with it?

What is all this I hear about Balinese men hugging visitors, men and women alike? I am visiting Bali for the first time in a few months time and in our party we have an Englishman, Irishman and an Australian man all of whom will completely freak out if they are hugged by a strange man. Where and when does this hugging take place? Us ladies want to shop but if hugging is involved then I can see our men deserting us.
