We have only just sponsored this little boy about two months ago, so while in bali decided to visit him.It was about a 3-4hr drive to get there,we were met a helen flavels new learning centre by the manager and then drove on to Gedes' house.Its hard for me to describe what it was like without going into too much detail,but I'll give it a go.Hard to believe people are still living in such poverty, a very humbling experience,these people have nothing except the roof over there head.His father works from 7-5pm makes $2 a day,which even in bali is barely enough for food!!No bathroom,just a tub out the back nextto the pig, nothing in the house except two plastic chairs and a small plastic table. We took Gede to the shops(never been in a car)never been to the shops either,first time for an icecream at age nine!!we bought him school clothes,socks shoes,bag etc etc.then went to the local market where we bought 400,000 of food for the family.when we arrived back at gedes house his parents came running down the driveway grabing our hands,it was very emotional.I am so happy we can help this family if only in a small way,$120 aud a year is not much out of our budget!!seonaid
