Sorry, but this post dissapeared into thin air just after i hit the "sent " button ... arrgghh
If your eating and you have finished your meal... cross your fork and spoon or fork and knife, with them facing down, this means you dont want anymore food and are full. the indo's will always do this..
If you are still hungry, the indonesian believe if the utensils are left as is and the spoon is facing upwards..it means you would like more. :) (however i know most resto's dont bother with this rule) but this is how it goes in someone's house.
Also another one is, if you have eaten everything on the plate its considered you want more. If you leave a little bit of nasi or something, it means your full and its a compliment to the cook (i dont know that the logic is on that one)
The same with drinks, visit a house and your given a drink, most indonesians will leave the tiniest bit in a glass, meaning they dont want anymore to drink. However if you finish it, they will think you want more... and again its considered rude to finish it all .. ( dont understand it either)
Now, also they love to have the loudest burp..i really really HATE THIS... at the table...i have trained my boyfriend not to do this and taught him to say "excuse me" i say if you do this in front of my parents i'll bloody kill you. Its just downright bad bloody manners...
Now, the biggie...if your eating and something gets stuck in your teeth..and you need a toothpick...i think its called tusuk gigi (tusuk is poke or stab...and gigi is teeth)
you MUST cover the mouth with your other hand while trying to get this bit of food from your teeth..its considered VERY VERY RUDE...to just poke around in your mouth without covering it!!!
:)
