yes, u can buy a phone in bali and it will work back in aussie, for the last 15 years i have bought my mobile phones from indonesia and have never had any problems using it back in aus, they will take any SIM card...i use optus in australia.
Just remember, that if u do buy one here, it will have the indonesian two pronged connection for the wall (charger) and the instruction book will probably be in indonesian only. U can easily buy the adaptor for the wall anywhere in indo, or aussie. And the warrantly probably wont be valid in aussie either.
Just saw on the local indonesian news this morning that they found a shipment of about 40 thousand nokia phones, being brought into the country illegally... so make sure its orginal, and buy it from a good retailer, and that the seal on the box isnt broken.. get them to open it in front of you :)
