I just came back from Bali last week.
I visited Lovina, and I suggest you to stay at Sawah Lovina!
It is cheap(around $20US),has a big room, and very clean. They only have 6 bungalows, so they maintain them well. The view is great, a beautiful rice field. And the owner is really friendly. I left my jacket there (silly me.. :P) and they sent it back to me!.
They also can arrange you a dolphin trip and snorkelling trip.
Just email to sawahlovina@hotmail.com (with Walter). If you stay there, please give my regards to Walter and Kancil.

In Ubud, try Melati Cottages.
The view is great, it's cheap, and they have a nice swimming pool. Rice fields are everywhere.. really nice.

I have some pictures if you want to...

Have fun there!
