We stayed at the Respati in Sanur in October and paid US$30 per night for a nice aircon cottage type room with fridge and H&C. Also included cooked breakfast. I just turned up and negotiated, which is what I usually do. They asked US$40 and told me that was a special. I told them that I liked their hotel, but it was no better than where I was currently staying and for that I was paying US$30 [true]. So they said "OK". Obviously no hard feelings as everyone was so friendly.

If you are in Candi Dasa, I strongly recommend Resor Prima. Lots of comments currently and in the archives.

I've stayed in Lipah village [Amed] in three different places, but none as cheap as what you are looking for. But if you go and have a look, you could try Bayu Cottages and WaWa WeWe, probably about right for price.

I sometimes look on the internet and print out the best price I can find, to use as a bargaining tool. I make sure that this price includes breakfast and all taxes and relates to the time of year I'll be there, ie high or low season. But I never book in advance [except for part accom in a package deal].

If you are negotiating, don't turn up with all your luggage on show in the car, looking desperate to find something in a hurry. And don't let your driver do the talking.

If you fancy a few days at the top [quiet] end of Seminyak, have a look at Bali Ayu. You should get a std villa for about AU$33 per night. This is handy for some last minute shopping and not too far from the airport when you are reluctantly coming home.
