Imperial Hotel in 2002. What I do know about the new 'Sofitel' is that it has one of the best Thai Restaurants in Bali called 'Husk'. The chef used to be at Longrain here in Sydney and the food is fabulous (even though he's English I believe). When we last stayed there it certainly wasn't a family hotel - lots of Japanese and Europeans as I recall. I'd say that it is certainly suited to over 60s. If the ocean view rooms are a lot more expensive, I'd recommend saving your money for spending on other things as the gardens are lovely. It really depends on your budget, but I can highly recommend staying in Villa accommodation (which can be in the same price bracket) as an alternative. We, as I mentioned, stayed there in Feb 2003 and for a similar price booked other trips staying in Villa accom. I can highly recommend Alu Bali - it's a little further up in Kerobokan, but is only a 5 minute walk to Petitenget Temple and the beach (& La Lucciola restaurant, etc) - it's also really close to what is called 'eat street' (Jalan Laksmana). The accommodation is 5 star and so is the food - the breakfasts are magnificent and it means that you certainly don't need lunch during your stay. Hope this is helpful and you'll love your trip to Bali no matter where you stay - just make sure you get out and about!
