Borobudur - Java

Can anyone tell me the best way to get from Kuta to Borobudur in Java.
Also costs, length of time etc.

I don't really want to go on a tour, probably 3-4 days round trip by myself.

I am assumming a public bus from Kuta to Gilimanuk and then the ferry across is a start,the what??? Any advice is welcome.
