Unless you are very broke or exceptionally brave dont take bus.Busses being big always take right of way in Indonesia.Unfortunately other large trucks etc assume they have right of way.The trip in Java can be a nightmare.Remember there are more than 100,000,000 people in Java and rather narrow highways.
I go to Bali and Yogya twice a year but I always fly to Yogya.
For reasonably priced accommodation and meals try Jl Prawirotamin.Rose Guest House is fine Iget room with AC for about Rp 90000 a night. Perwita Sari over road with fan room is good for about Rp 50000.There are four excellent restaurants close to these guest houses.Try Agung Travel Agent nearby for trips .ToBorobodour go early in morning or else too hot.
Jalan Prawirotamin is about Rp 50000 by taxi from Air Port and about Rp15000 $2 from Jl Maliborough. If you want cheap shopping shop here and realize the Bali rip off.
