You could book into just anywhere in the area where you want to stay, just for a few nights and jalan jalan asking at any & all hotels you pass for their long-stay rates - many of the usual hotels just don't do it, though, because they aren't locally owned and the prices are fixed maybe or they perhaps have airline affiliations? Dunno - guessing. A losmen or a villa in an enclave might be more suitable - just look for signs pointing down gangs - ask the locals - lots of things you can do to find accommodation there if you're not in a rush. Adang adang. Been there, done that:)

I know Three Brothers Inn in Jalan Padma Utara caters for & has had long-term stayers. We have known more than a few. Several friends have stayed there for lengthy periods altho we haven't - great reports tho - central yet quiet location. Beautiful grounds & pool. Choice of both aircon & fan-cooled. Bargain there as anywhere. It is mainly a European place and when we were there in Sept '05 there were lots of kids running around. They don't seem to have a web site.

I am risking being flamed here .. as before ... but I am sure that now, even more so than before the you-know-what, hotel prices are very negotiable if you just rock up. And ignore those who say that bargaining for a hotel room takes money away from the Balinese - most hotels are not owned by Balinese anyway and besides no matter where you choose to stay, Balinese ARE being employed at THAT place - six of one, half a dozen of the other.

We always used to spend at least 2 months in Bali each year - times have changed, sadly. I envy you your extended stay - I know you will enjoy:)
