The place we stayed at for a decade or more was a losmen but is now an enclave where Westerners have long-term leased land & built about 8 houses - sometimes one is vacant. It's not an option for you - I would still say that the best thing to do is to take a stroll past Double 6 towards Seminyak off Jl Legian and look for recent signs on gang corners for places to rent.
For such a long stay the usual hotels are not really an option because so few cater for long-stayers. Why would they? They gain far more from yer average short-stayer. Try 3 Brothers.
Even if you're not staying in a Hotel, your child can still hang out with other kids - just go to a big Hotel nearby, look like you're staying there, let your kid swim in the pool & play with the other kids. If hotel staff object, just slip him/her some rupeedoops - what we did - no probs. If you're there for 2 months tho your child will probably have more fun with local Balinese kids. Mine did. Some hotels allow visitors to the pool for a fee, anyway.
I was flamed here because I asked what a walk-in price at a Hotel was compared with the official price. I was accused of kicking the Balinese while they're down etc etc for trying to get the best price *shrug* Hey, bargaining is a given in Bali, no?
Hope you find somewhere suitable:)
